We are daylight engineers...
The VELUX Group title sponsor for the second time
The thrill of the race and the courageous and determined personalities of the skippers are of magnetic attraction to VELUX 5 OCEANS. As title sponsor of the race, the VELUX Group is a strong proponent of pushing back the limits and finding new ways to reach astonishing results. The VELUX Group holds the title sponsorship for the second time. The message broadcast during the last VELUX 5 OCEANS was the enormity of the challenge the race presents in doing battle with the oceans and emerging as the winner.
Taking on the elements demands both persistence and skill. The VELUX Group is no stranger to either. As a manufacturer of roof windows, the Group brings a creative and innovative approach to the development of its new products and business strategies. And like the skippers, the VELUX Group has to break new ground to maintain its position. Although a leading brand in the building industry, the VELUX Group constantly challenges the boundaries of the business. Its fundamental objective is to unite daylight, fresh air and appealing architecture with the need to eliminate CO2 emissions from buildings. Not only does this reduce the use of energy, it also creates a healthy indoor climate for people to live in.
The sustainable course
With sustainability being an important part of VELUX 5 OCEANS 2010, the link between the race and its title sponsor is further enhanced. Sustainability is a pivotal issue for the VELUX Groupís key goals, actions and solutions. The Group has set the course for an ambitious climate strategy aimed at reducing its CO2 emissions by 20% before 2012 and by 50% before 2020.
The VELUX Group develops sustainable building projects to inspire the future of modern living. One experimental project, Model Home 2020, demonstrates how it is possible to integrate natural energy sources and make a CO2-neutral design with an optimum indoor climate. Buildings represent 40% of all energy consumption in Europe - but VELUX experiments show that this figure can be reduced significantly with products that are already available on the market today. In the VELUX Group this new thinking is called Sustainable Living.
The VELUX product programme contains a wide range of roof windows and skylights, along with solutions for flat roofs. The Group also supplies many types of decoration and sun screening, roller shutters, installation products, products for remote control and thermal solar panels for installation in roofs. The VELUX Group, which has manufacturing companies in 11 countries and sales companies in just under 40 countries, represents one of the strongest brands in the global building materials sector and its products are sold in most parts of the world. The VELUX Group has about 10,000 employees and is owned by VKR Holding A/S, a limited company wholly owned by foundations and family.
