RACE FOLLOWERS

TAKING ON THE ELEMENTS will be educational, inspirational and interactive for followers. It will draw upon the lives of the skippers at sea to illustrate how to live a more sustainable existence and will then challenge race followers to adopt these standards and apply them in their own lives on land.

We envisage three core elements to the theme that will provide the basis of all communications and events under the banner of 'TAKING ON THE ELEMENTS': The Ultimate Global Challenge:

Inform

We will build a list of SUSTAINABILITY ACTIONS, ideally supported by one skipper which are based on their lives at sea. These actions will then be applied to life on land, with an educational proposition for race followers to replicate these actions.

Inspire

The objective is to educate our race followers about the importance and benefits of living more sustainably, lessons from skippers about how to achieve this and then provide the opportunity for race followers to pledge to apply these lessons in their life.

Interact

Beyond the pledge, we will invite race followers to comment and quantitavely, and qualitatively, track how their basic principles of living have changed to become more sustainable and reduce their carbon footprint.

We will create online forums for discussions about sustainability and invite followers to pledge changes to their lives, quantifying the net positive impact to the climate change. We will also create event in ports, including skipper Q&A sessions, race promotions in the race village and special video conferencing sessions with skippers.
