MAERSK LINE JOINS:
OFFICIAL TRANSPORTATION PARTNER
Unprecedented shipping services for skippers
Maersk Line is the Official Transportation Partner of the VELUX 5 OCEANS. The unrivalled world leader in maritime transportation of containerised goods will provide complimentary shipping services to the skippers, partners and stakeholders before and during the 35,000 mile round the world yacht race, just one part of the extensive support package offered to competitors in the VELUX 5 OCEANS 2010.
Maersk Line takes a sustainable approach to shipping in a bid to tackle climate change that fits perfectly with the VELUX 5 OCEANS' sustainability concept TAKING ON THE ELEMENTS, the races’ commitment to the planet and the challenges to the world on sustainable development. Containers will be provided to skippers and partners in their home ports to ship materials to the race start in La Rochelle. The containers will then leap frog each other in 2 groups to ensure that materials arrive into the host ports in time for each stopover period of the race.
Maersk Line is a division of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group and is the leading liner shipping company in the world serving customers all over the globe. Our operations comprise more than 500 vessels, 17,000 employees, and 2 million containers spread across 135 countries. At any given time, our ships will be carrying goods worth three percent of the world’s total GDP. Therefore, we also have a great responsibility in conducting sustainable business to enhance constant care for the environment and the people whose lives we touch.
